Elsie passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2018. She was born on October 25, 1924 to the late Harry and Myrtle Carter. After graduating West Springfield High School in 1942 Elsie assisted in the fight against fascism manufacturing parts for ships bringing supplies to the allies during World War II. When she was widowed from her first husband Warren Loudfoot at age 34 with 4 children aged 4 to 10, she developed a career on the railroad and provided a good life for her children. After retiring from the railroad, she managed the railroad employee’s credit union for a year. Elsie liked the beach, but didn’t swim, and she liked restaurants but didn’t eat (maybe a salad or soup). She saw them as places to enjoy people and meet and relax with her children and friends. She loved flowers, gardening and animals - especially her cats. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband George, her daughter, Linda Loudfoot-Hosmer, her son Alan Loudfoot, her daughter and son in law Kathleen and John Beninati and her sons Angelo and Gabriel Quaglia and his wife Sara. She will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Robert Loudfoot, her brother Richard Carter, her sister Mary Carter Jerome, her son-in-law Thomas Hosmer and her good friend Estelle Smus. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-6 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday 11 AM at Mittineague Congregational Church, 1840 Westfield Street, West Springfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
