West Springfield -Janet Leahy passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22nd. At her death, Janet was surrounded by the love of her daughters and her grandchildren (with visits from a few of her great -grandchildren) who had kept vigil with her during her final night and eased her transition to new life with their prayers and their strength. She was born Janet Lynch in 1927 in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of John Lynch and Gertrude (Fewer) Lynch. Following the death of her father when she was 6 years old Janet moved with her mother and her brother Jack (deceased) to Westfield and eventually settled in West Springfield where she was educated in the town schools, graduating from West Springfield High School with the class of 1945. She loved her class reunions and playing cards with her friends. Janet was a 65 year communicant of St. Thomas Parish and a school crossing guard on Kings Highway when her own daughters attended St. Thomas School. Janet worked for many years with INA and Monarch Life and retired from Atlantic Fasteners. Janet leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughters Sandy Hourihan (Pat) and Patti Kraus (John). She also leaves the grandchildren she loved so much, Kate Morrison, Tim, Brendan, Danny and Brian Hourihan and Erin Skowera, Kevin and Meghan Kraus and 15 much-loved great-grandchildren. She also leaves her good friend, Marge. Janet's final resting place will be with her dear daughter Linda, who died in 1968 at age 13. Her funeral will be Thursday 9AM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., W. Spfld. followed by a 10AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 5-7PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas School Annual Fund, 75 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.
