Monique (Lazure) Tougas, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday February 3, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Montreal, Canada April 17, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Louis and Marie (Renaud) Lazure. She was a devote Catholic, the most loving & selfless mother, grandmother & great grandmother. Her family was her pride, joy and her wealth. She was the epitome of grace, charm & elegance & truly a gentle woman. She loved entertaining & always opened her home & heart with an abundance of warmth, love & laughter. She taught in the West Spfld. school system & was a member of the Spfld. French Club, & United & Nocturnal Societies. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, warm smile & loving heart! Her beloved husband, Francis passed in 2008. She leaves her devoted & loving children, Rosemarie Morin, Susie Tougas, Lisa Edwards and her husband Mark & Caroline Smith. Grandchildren; Jason, Christopher and Stephan Morin, Michael, Stephanie and Brittany Edwards, Jackie and Jessica Smith, Great Grandchildren; Ryan, Austin, Owen and Logan Morin. Sister-in-law: Sister Marie Tougas, a member of Sisters For the Christian Community. And her many nieces & nephews she so deeply adored. Special thanks to our loving caregivers: Mary Beckwith, Melissa Oyler, Liz Blazer, Wendy Libbey & Donna McCarthy. Your kindness, love & dedication made it possible to keep our beautiful mother in her own home. We’d also like to extend special thanks to Dr. Spencer Hodgins, Kathleen Nash & Marlene Bolow (of Baystate’s ICU), for providing such wonderful care & allowing our mother to pass with dignity & respect. She was predeceased by siblings; Louis, John and Mark Lazure and Janine Godard. Calling hours are 4-7 Friday, Feb 9 at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. The Funeral will be held Saturday @ 9am at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield - burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Donations can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association or Sisters of St. Joseph.
