West Springfield, Waneta (Butler) Asta-Ferrero, 79, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Heritage Hall West in Agawam after a courageous, 5 year battle with cancer. Born in Thomaston, ME to the late Walter and Leone (Cummings) Butler, she was a longtime West Springfield resident. She worked at the A & P in West Springfield for 14 years. An avid reader, she was a talented painter and seamstress and a faithful communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Waneta is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years Peter J. Asta-Ferrero, their five children; Peter J. Asta-Ferrero, Jr. of CO, Katherine Allen and her husband Paul of Brimfield, Tina Marie Hale and her husband Jerry of West Warren, Karen Ravosa and her husband Robert of Longmeadow and Joanna Knowlton and her husband Freeman of Wilbraham, four sisters; Audrey Downs of Portsmouth, NH, Margaret Damewood and Kay Leary both of Warren, ME, Pauline Wright of Haverhill, MA, five cherished grandchildren; Sarah Hearn and her husband Brendan, Jason Allen, Alicia Asta-Ferrero, Robert Ravosa, Jr. and Liam Knowlton and three great grandchildren; Andre, Christopher and Mia. She was predeceased by her twin brother Walter Butler last year. The family would like to thank Baystate VNA & Hospice, especially hospice nurse Carolyn for her compassion and dedication, and Heritage Hall for their compassionate care of Waneta. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. Family and friends may meet for Waneta’s Funeral Mass on Saturday at 9:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St., West Springfield followed by burial in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery.
