David J Murphy

David J. "Murph" Murphy of West Springfield died on Monday, October 14, 2024. Born on July 28, 1939, to Leonard and Hazel (Monty) Murphy, David grew up in Chicopee Falls and lived in the area for all his life. He was an auto mechanic for Casey Chevrolet as a young man before becoming a construction project manager. David was the project manager for many of the ice rinks and public swimming pools in the state built in the 1970s. He went on to work for many large corporations, such as Bank of Boston, Dole, and Federal Express, across the country as a construction project manager. David leaves his son, David J. Murphy of Somerville and daughter, Dr. Cynthia Murphy Kennedy of Ludlow, and her family. He also leaves his sister, Eileen of East Windsor, CT, and was pre-deceased by his brother Robert in 1999. Murph was an avid car enthusiast and never met an engine he could not fix. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. The funeral mass will be held Monday October 21 at 10AM from St Thomas Church 47 Pine St West Springfield with burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Chicopee.
