Darren R. Cloutier, 47 of Salem, MA, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, August 10th, 2018.  Darren was a West Springfield High School graduate, Class of 1989.  Darren went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in the class of 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology.  After graduation, Darren went on to have a career in the elevator industry working for several major elevator corporations in various capacities.   Darren began his career as a mechanics apprentice in local 4 and went on to a very successful career in technical sales.   He most recently worked at ThyssenKrupp Elevator and Elevator Interior design in the Greater Boston market. Darren was a gentle soul with an infectious laugh.   He was a hard worker, with an inquisitive, problem solving mind when he found something of interest. When Darren took on a project that caught his interest, he dove into it and learned everything he could learn about the subject matter.   Darren had a very creative side to him that he acquired from his mother.  He taught himself guitar and loved jamming with his friends and family.  He had a love of music of many genres and he was a very good guitar player.  In 2010, he formed a 3-piece acoustic band with his friends called “Flounders in the Wind”.  They often played gigs at local clubs around Salem.  Both children and animals were drawn to Darren and enjoyed spending time with him.  Darren also enjoyed golfing in his spare time and was known to not only putt on the course, but to do some puttering around the house. Darren leaves behind his wife, Wendy Pierce Cloutier of Salem.  He also leaves his sister Michelle Cloutier LaRiviere and her husband Michael, along with nephews Nathan and Brett, all of West Springfield. Darren was predeceased by his loving parents Robert (2011) and Beverly (2018) Cloutier. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and great friends. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, August 17th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield, MA. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 18th at 10:00 AM at the funeral home followed by a burial service at St. Thomas cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation, in Darren’s name, to the National Stroke Foundation
