Kathleen Morrissey-Morini, 68, of West Springfield, MA and Seabrook Beach, NH, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Raised in Andover, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Anne (Gaffny) and Walter J. Morrissey Jr., of Andover, and Seabrook Beach, and formerly Feeding Hills. Kathy was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She possessed artistic and musical talents and had a passion for creative arts of every kind. Kathy was a prolific artist who could use any medium to create art. This was evident in the varied and numerous gifts using her designs that she gave to family and friends. She had a beautiful soprano voice and taught herself guitar in high school, so she could perform in local coffee houses. She also studied and mastered calligraphy, which she showed at various occasions at shows in Massachusetts. Kathy was a graduate of Andover High School and in 1973 graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She worked as a children’s book illustrator, a calligrapher, graphic designer, and teacher. Kathy taught calligraphy at the Holyoke Creative Arts Center for many years and retired in 2017 from the Pittsfield Public Schools where she taught elementary school art. Survivors include her husband of 40 years Michael M. Morini; her son Michael Morrissey Morini and daughter-in-law Rebecca Keith of Brooklyn and Athens, NY, “little sis” Ellen Murphy and her sons Bobby and Daniel of Andover; Aunts Harriet Palmieri of Andover and Margaret O’Connell of Methuen, many cousins, sisters-in-law Dorothy Andersons and Liz Basile, brother-in-law Steve; nieces Rebecca Rivera and Leah Basile; and nephew Dominic Basile, close friends Flo Polansky Newman and her husband Rich; Karen Walsh Pio and her husband Rick; Steve Schmidt and his wife Janet, Elaine Shea and her husband Dave West; Rev. Tom Faiola; and Bev & Chris Granger. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 – 7pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield.
