Marjorie Stone Katsoulis, who devoted her life to family, friends, and public service, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18. She was the daughter of the late Vernon and Marion Lippe Stone. Born in Westfield, she graduated from Westfield High School and American International College. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 60 years, Marc S. Katsoulis, who feels she is the best thing that ever happened to him. Marjorie leaves three children, who made her proud throughout her life: Keith, of Auburn, Greg and his wife Jenn, of Cambridge, and Krista and her husband Derek, of Medfield. Marjorie adored her five grandchildren: Alexa, Jenna, Evia, Lucas and Dylan. She was pre-deceased by her sister Phyllis, and her dear Aunt Helen. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Dr. John Katsoulis and his wife, Beverlee, of Florida and their children: Stephen, Kara and Christopher and their families.
Margie loved gardening, photography, and genealogy, and found time to be active in government in a variety of ways. She was a West Springfield campaign coordinator for the late Congressman Silvio Conte. She was an elected town meeting member and Chairman of the Board of Library Trustees, and an elected member of the Hampden County Charter Commission, and was Chairman of the West Springfield Conservation Commission.
Margie was an avid reader and worked for many years at the Springfield Library. She had a particular love of historical research and passionately studied and wrote about civil rights activist Elizabeth “Mumbet” Freeman. She lived most of her life in West Springfield before retiring to Cape Cod in 1996 where she was active with Cable Access and worked as a reporter. She later returned to Western Mass in 2001, eventually settling in Agawam for the remainder of her life. She was again active in Cable Access and was Chairman of the Agawam Cable Commission. Margie worked very hard in service to others throughout her life, but never looked for glory or headlines.
