Robert “Pops” Martin Begley Sr., 74, of Morton Street passed away Friday at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. He was born in Westfield on May 6th, 1943 to the late Dennis and Margaret (Butts) Begley. He lived most of his life in West Springfield and was a graduate of West Springfield High School. He worked for many years as an electrician at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford. He retired in 2000. Pops was a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran. He was well known in the town of West Springfield for donating his time to walk the dogs of neighbors and friends. Pops was an avid hunter and the luckiest fisherman. He was the beloved widower of Carol Ann (Kingsley) Begley, loving father of Robert M. Begley Jr. and his wife Michelle of West Springfield, Colleen Begley of Tucson, AZ, Sean Begley and his longtime companion Lynn Vandamia of Owego, NY, Laura Tardy and her husband Jason of Chicopee, and Brian White of Amherst, caring brother of Dennis Begley and longtime companion Mary Ann Gendreau of West Springfield and Mary Lou Rivard of Concord, devoted grandfather of Ian and Conor Begley, Savannah and Michael Tardy, and Katie Goff. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was previously married to Judith E. (Carey) Cooper of Tucson, AZ. There will be a Funeral Home Service Wednesday at 1 PM at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield followed by a Committal Service at 2 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
