West Springfield � Adrian J. Baetens, 99, passed away June 14th at his home after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. Adrian was born in Wouw, the Netherlands in 1917 to his parents, Achiel Baetens and Cornelia Norbart. After growing up in the Netherlands, he served the Queen in the Royal Dutch Navy Marine Corps as a machinist mate, stationed in Aruba during World War II. After the war, he immigrated to the U.S. where he became a citizen in 1955. He worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY, in the turbine division for 35 years, until his retirement. He loved fishing the rivers of upstate NY and traveling with his wife Marion. Adrian was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Marion Rorick, his stepson, Eugene Chance, his wife Marsha and several siblings. Adrian is survived by his son, Richard Baetens of Kattskill Bay, NY, loving adopted daughter, Cynthia Elderkin of W. Spfld., his grandchildren, Sara Baetens Young and husband Brian of VT, Wendi Baetens Hieronymous and husband Paul of NH, Mollie Baetens Silenga and husband Eric of Westfield, step-granchildren in the Schenectady area, 5 great-grandchildren, his sister Emma, his niece, Lian and husband Albert, nephew Johan and wife Karin, former daughter-in-law, Lois Baetens of Westfield, as well as many other nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and England and his dog Kaleb. A calling hour will be held Saturday from 12-1PM followed by a 1PM Funeral Home Service at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY burial in Viewland Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY. Toomey-O�Brien Funeral Home is assisting the family locally. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer�s Foundation of America or a charity of your choice.
