Obituary
Our dad, Aldo L. Paier of West Springfield passed away on August 9, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was born in West Springfield on January 12, 1927 to the late Giovanna & Giuseppe Paier. Aldo served in the United States Navy as a Seabee during WWII; where he received the WWII Victory Medal, The American Theatre Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal. He was a draftsman by trade and a founding father of the Exposition Area Scholarship Fund. He was also a member of the Deadline Gang and a lifetime member of the Dante Club. He was a longtime communicant of the former St. Ann’s Church and more recently a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Aldo was an avid golfer with 5 hole-in-ones to his credit. His beloved wife Shirley (Tunstall) Paier passed away in 2007. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph Paier and Otto Paier and wife Geri along with Don & Lou Tunstall, Fran & Mary Tunstall, John Tunstall, and Bill & Dottie Tunstall. He is survived by his loving sister-in-law Ann Paier. Al will be missed by his loving children Karen and her husband Carl Ericksberg, Aldo A. Paier and daughter-in-law Joann, Mary Paier Powers and her husband Dennis Powers, Sheila and her husband Frank Palange. Nono will be forever missed by his grandchildren Melissa Paier & Pat, Nick & Sarah Paier, Andy & Ashley Paier, Maureen & Brian Rojee, Sean, Jennifer and Laura Powers, Nicole Palange & Sean, and Stephanie Palange, Jamie & Carl King. Greatgrandchildren Cameron, MaeRose, Audrey, Vivian, Megan, Mia, Riley, Colton, Barrett and Nono’s buddy Masyn. Aldo leaves several nieces and nephews from the Paier and Tunstall families.  A special thanks to Aldo’s caregivers Elizabeth, Debbie and his granddaughter Melissa. There will be calling hours from 4 – 7 pm Thursday at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. Masks will be mandatory for all those attending the wake and because of the Covid 19 restrictions we ask that all those attending the calling hours to please exit directly to their cars after paying their respects. There will be a public Funeral Mass Friday at 11 am at St. Thomas Church in West Springfield followed by a burial at St. Thomas Cemetery. Once again we ask that everyone wear masks and respect social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers donations in Aldo’s memory can be made to the Exposition Area Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 124, West Springfield MA, 01090.
