Obituary
Alfred “Al” R. Lawrence, 80, of 50 Cardinal Drive, passed away Thursday at Heritage Hall in Agawam. He was born in Springfield on September 3, 1940 to the late Russell and Dorothy (McMorow) Lawrence. He lived most of his life in West Springfield. He received his BA from University of Nebraska and his Masters from George Washington University. Al was a faithful Christian man that served his country honorably for over 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a highly decorated Vietnam War Veteran and retired from the service in 1982. After his retirement he did consulting work locally and later worked at the Card Collector’s Closet in Springfield. He was an avid hockey fan and he was the President of the AHL Booster Club Convention and also was President of the Springfield Indians/Falcons Booster Club. Al also served on the Board of the March of Dimes for the Springfield Chapter. He enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, visiting the Casino and family gatherings He was the beloved husband of Sally Lundberg, loving brother of Carol A. Goulet and her husband George of West Springfield, caring uncle of Charles Singley and his wife Ailsa, Sheila Felleter and her husband Chris, Jill Lundberg and her fiancé Gordon, Erin McGovern and her husband Bernard, Kristin Waterhouse and her husband Kevin, Gregg Lundberg and his wife Marlene, as well as several other nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his sister Dorothy LeBeau, brother William Lawrence, brother-in-law James Lundberg and sister–in-law Valerie Lundberg. There will be a private Committal Service at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements. The video of the Committal Service will be available after 4 PM on Tuesday on www.toomeyobrien.com . In lieu of flowers donations in Al’s name may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
