Andrew �Andy� V. Mangano, 79 of Dunnellon, FL and W. Springfield MA, died peacefully at his home in FL. on March 28, 2017, surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer. Andy was born on March 12, 1938 in Willimantic, CT to the late Andrew J. and Fidelis (Dufresne) Mangano. He grew up in Willimantic and learned to play the trumpet while attending Windham High School. He played the trumpet in many different bands throughout his life and continued to play for special occasions. He served in the Navy as a radioman on the destroyer, the USS Forest Sherman cruising the Mediterranean. After the Navy, Andy attended the University of Hartford where he obtained a degree in electrical engineering. He worked as a plant engineer for Southern New England Telephone for thirty years, where he helped expand and bring service to many areas in CT. Many co-workers from SNETCO remained lifelong friends. Andy�s enthusiasm wasn�t limited to music. He was a ping pong master, a horseshoe legend and a passionate golfer. Put a pool stick in his hand and he became a wizard. He loved to cook and shared many wonderful meals with his family and friends. Andy enjoyed traveling with his wife and best friend for 55 years, Suzanne (Viens) Mangano. He was a wonderful and supportive father to Deborah of Bristow, VA, Thomas of Albuquerque, NM, James (Livia) of Tampa, FL. He also leaves his grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Cara, Kristin, Victoria, Andrew and Sophia, who will miss him dearly because he was such an awesome Grandpa and his great grandchildren Elise and Victor. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark and wife Jeannie of Brooklyn, CT, Peter of Marana, AZ and his beloved Aunt Jose Mangano of Willimantic, CT. He enjoyed his family and friends and leaves behind many cousins, nieces & nephews. He also leaves a very special sister in law, Diane Viens, they shared many laughs through the years and for the last days of his life, care and comfort. The funeral will be 9AM, Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the TOOMEY-O�BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., W. Spfld., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St., burial will follow at MA Veteran�s Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Calling hours will be Wednesday, 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave, Ocala, FL 34474 FL or the hospice of your choice in Andy�s name, so they may care and comfort others.
