Barbara Ann Donovan

West Springfield- Barbara Ann (O’Brien) Donovan, 90, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield on March 14, 1933 to the late James and Sadie (Sullivan) O’Brien. Barbara grew up in West Springfield, attended St. Thomas the Apostle School, and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1951. After high school, she worked as a secretary in the engineering department of American Bosch. Barbara then devoted herself fulltime to her marriage and raising her family. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield, and a member of the Catholic Women’s Group in Springfield. Barbara was the loving wife of John J. Donovan, and they were married for 65 years. She was the loving mother of B. Lynn Mangini and her husband Robert of West Springfield, John J. Donovan and his wife Linda of Morristown, NJ, Robert J. Donovan and his wife Terry of West Springfield, Elizabeth A. Donovan of West Springfield, and Gregory D. Donovan and his wife Jennifer of West Springfield, loving grandmother of Rob and Mark Mangini, Katie and Megan Donovan, Bobby, Michael and Nick Donovan, and Brendon, Andrew, Kaley and Riley Donovan, great grandmother of Colton and Adalynn Donovan, caring sister-in-law of Elizabeth O’Brien of Andover, MA and Joan Goggin of Springfield. Barbara also leaves a cousin, and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brothers James, Clayton, Paul, and William O’Brien, and sisters Mary Kennedy and Ruth Murphy. The calling hours will be Thursday from 4-7 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. The funeral will be Friday 9 am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
