Barbara J. O'Brien

Barbara Jean (Leigner) O’Brien, 90, of Houston Road passed away Sunday at home. She was born in Springfield, graduated from West Springfield High School, and has lived in West Springfield all of her life. Barbara worked as a bookkeeper at several local businesses over the years. She attended Sacred Heart Church in Springfield, but more recently she has been a communicant of St. Thomas Church. She was a dedicated “hockey mom” and was a big Tom Brady fan. She was the beloved widow of John J. O’Brien who passed away in 1989, loving mother of John “Jack” O’Brien and his wife Shelley of Milford, PA, Donna Stewart and her husband Tom of Winter Garden, FL, and Michael O’Brien and his companion Jeanne Moriarty of Southwick, devoted grandmother of Meghan O’Brien and Justin McCue, and caring sister of Stanley Leigner. Calling hours will be Sunday (1/22) from 4-6 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. The funeral will be Monday (1/23) 9 am at the funeral home followed at 10 am by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be at the St. Thomas Cemetery.
