Obituary
Betty Jean (Wright) Skowera, 89, a long-time resident of West Springfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Heritage Hall East in Agawam. She was the loving wife of 61 years to Paul T. Skowera who predeceased her in September 2020.
Betty was born in Frankfort, Indiana on March 13, 1932, daughter of the late Charles and Martha (Marr) Wright. She was a graduate of Mexico High School in Indiana. While living in the Midwest, Betty began working as a dance instructor and supervisor for Arthur Murray Dance Studios, and later transferred to Massachusetts where she met the love of her life. She retired from the Springfield Welfare Department after many years of service. She enjoyed dancing, bingo, bowling, traveling, reading and most of all spending time with her family.
Betty leaves behind her children Keith Skowera and his wife Sharon of Enfield, Connecticut, Lori Willis and her husband James of West Springfield and Joseph Skowera of Springfield; her grandchildren Adam, Benjamin (Elizabeth) and Matthew (Vanessa) Skowera and Kimberly and Michael Willis; her great-grandson Noah Skowera, along with many nieces and nephews. Betty was also predeceased by her six brothers Vaughn, Dean, Keith, Wayne, Max, and Jack.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Western and Central MA and Heritage Hall staff for the compassionate care they gave our mother.
Calling Hours will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, with burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Western and Central Massachusetts, 1325 Springfield St. #12, Feeding Hills, MA 01030 or to your charity of choice.
