Bruce P. Burdick passed away on October 25 in East Longmeadow. He was 79 years old. Born July 21, 1947 in Paterson, NJ, he was one of three sons of the late Roland and Mary (Chiarulli) Burdick. Bruce was raised in Fair Lawn, NJ. He attended New York University but came to Western MA to attend Western New England College and American International College, earning his Bachelors Degree in Mathematics. He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Case Worker for the Department of Transitional Assistance.

Bruce had a remarkable intellect and wide-ranging interests. Gifted in mathematics, he taught himself calculus at age 12. He also loved the arts, including painting, classical music—especially vocal music—and movies of all kinds. Bruce was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brothers Alan Burdick of Aiea, Hawaii, and Chris Burdick of South Salem, NY; Alan’s children, Natalia and Tristan; Chris’s wife, Illyria, and their children, Bradford, Juliana, and Margaretta; and his grandnieces, Nora and Sadie. Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 21, at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home with burial immediately following at Springfield Cemetery.
