Chicopee - Bruce D. Marcantonio, 70, of Chicopee, MA, and Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away at Willimansett East Nursing Home on Thursday, February 2, 2017 after living with brain cancer for 15 months. Son of the late Lawrence and Barbara (Knightly) Marcantonio, Bruce was born in Springfield on September 22,1946. Raised in West Springfield, he graduated from West Springfield High School in 1965 and attended Holyoke Community College. Bruce served in the United States Army from 1967-1969, stationed in South Korea along the DMZ. After some years working construction, Bruce became a mail handler at the United States Post Office. Upon retirement, he worked part time jobs at Stanley Park, Ledges Golf Club, and Chicopee Country Club. Most days Bruce could be found walking, biking, skiing, exercising, and especially golfing - anywhere between New England and Myrtle Beach. A wonderful son, brother, and friend, Bruce is survived by his sister Ann of Murrells Inlet, SC; a close cousin Linda (Knightly) Parker of Feeding Hills and her husband Rob who was so helpful to Bruce during his treatment, and their children Kristen, Rob and Ryan; cousins Terry Marcantonio, Dan Marcantonio, Judith Marcantonio, Jean Wysocki, Marie Elizabeth Convertito, and Michael Valluzzo; as well as a wide circle of buddies including Tommy, Danny, Ralph, Chris, John, Steve and his South Carolina crew including Ron, David, Ken and Sandy. Special thanks to the staff of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute who provide such hope and to the best primary care physician, Dr. Anand Kanjolia. The funeral will be Tuesday, 9AM at the TOOMEY-O�BRIEN Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., W. Spfld., followed by a 10AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St. His committal with Military Honors will follow at the MA Veteran�s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-7PM.
