Obituary
Carolyn C. Marsano, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29 at her home in Westfield, with her family by her side.  She was born March 10, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA to William H. Coburn and the former Marian Miller Couch.  Carolyn is survived by her sons, Derek (Shanda) of Menlo Park, CA and Timothy of Boise, ID; daughter Tracy (Ron Sawicki) of West Springfield; grandchildren Emma and Nicholas Marsano, and Benjamin and Austin Sawicki; and sister Arlene Brahm of Olmsted Falls, OH.  She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Robert (“Bob”) M. Marsano; her parents, and sister Beverly (Paul Alderdice).  Carolyn attended Springdale High School in Pittsburgh, and Waynesburg College, PA.  From her marriage in 1957 until 1972, she served alongside Bob as Church secretary – beginning at First Presbyterian in Arkport, NY; and later at Oakwood Avenue Presbyterian in Troy, NY – helping to run Church business, creating bulletins and other communications, and serving on various committees.  She also lent her fine soprano singing voice to the church choir.  Her love of singing would become a lifelong passion, as she continued in the choir at the Mittineague Congregational Church in West Springfield, and also became a 35-year member of Sweet Adelines in both chorus and quartets, competing in competitions throughout the world.  After raising her 3 children, she continued her business career, most recently as administrative assistant to the president at American International College. Mom loved sewing and crafting.  She created her own wedding dress, was a seamstress for local girls figure skaters and other athletes, and went on to start a crafting business, creating and selling her styles at craft shows throughout New England. Funeral arrangements and receipt of bouquets are being coordinated by Toomey O’Brien, West Springfield, at (413) 732-2278.  Alternately, please consider an in-lieu donation to Trinity Health of New England At Home Hospice at (413) 540-0140, or Alzheimer’s Association. Viewing will take place at the Mittineague Congregational Church on Saturday, September 4th, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a service of remembrance at 11 a.m.  Interment will follow immediately at Paucatuck Cemetery.  A reception will then follow at the Irish Cultural Center, 429 Morgan Road.
