Obituary
Catherine (McGrath) Goodman passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020 at Mont Marie Healthcare Center in Holyoke.  An Irish Catholic girl through and through, Catherine was born in Woodside, NY in 1930 to Mary & James McGrath, grew up in the Hungry Hill neighborhood of Springfield and graduated from the former Cathedral High School.  She was married at the age of 19 to Douglas Goodman and together they (literally) built the house in West Springfield where they would raise their family and live for the next 65 years.   Catherine was a long-time communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield.  She worked for the John H. Breck Company for many years before settling in to help manage things at the architectural firm of Reinhardt Associates where Doug was a partner. Catherine traveled extensively with Doug, and particularly enjoyed spending time on the island of Antigua.  She and Doug also loved entertaining family and friends at their summer home in Otis, MA. Catherine was generous, loving and irrepressibly upbeat.  She seldom had a bad day, and if she did she never showed it.  The focus of her life was her family whom she loved and supported without fail.  They are forever grateful for the immense, positive impact she has had on their lives. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas C. Goodman, as well as her brothers James McGrath, John McGrath, and Richard McGrath. She leaves, to mourn her passing, and rejoice in the memories of her extraordinary life, her loving brother Dennis (Eileen) McGrath of Grand Prairie, TX; her son Mark Goodman of Lakeland Florida; daughters Susan (Mark) Tassinari of West Suffield, CT, Sheileen Goodman of Chicopee, MA, Laura (Peter) Pudela of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren Sean Goodman, Peter and Calvin Pudela, and Michael and Clare Tassinari; great granddaughter Jetta Goodman, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, including several in Ireland.  She also leaves her lifelong best friend Mary, with whom she shared so many cherished times. The family would like to thank the second floor staff at Mont Marie for their compassionate care, particularly during these difficult times.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Catherine’s name can be made to The Parish Cupboard, 1023 Main St., West Springfield, MA 01089. A Calling Hour will be held SAT, Sept 12th from 10 to 11 AM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST., W.SPFLD.  A Prayer Service will be held at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. With respect to COVID-19 guidelines, visitors are requested to wear a mask and maintain proper social distance.
