Obituary
Charles C. Bowers, 85, passed away Sat at Baystate Medical Center. He was born Jan. 13, 1934 to the late Henry and Margaret (Bird) Bowers. Charles proudly served in the US Air Force as a navigator for over 20 years, retiring as a Major. After serving his country, Charles went on to work in education. He taught history at Mt. Carmel, was a guidance counselor at Cathedral and West Springfield High School and was an academic advisor for continuing education at Elms College. A history buff, he enjoyed reading, attending musicals and plays, listening to Irish music and he loved his cats. Charles was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, June (Tredenick) Bowers in August of 2016. He leaves his loving children; Charlene Elias and her late husband Phil, Debra Friedrich and her husband Glenn, John Bowers and his wife Kathleen, and James Bowers and his wife Kim, 10 grandchildren; Danielle Ivenz, Andrew and Matthew Friedrich, Kelly and Philip Elias, Ashley, Meaghan and Christopher Bowers, and Daniel and David Bowers and 2 great grandchildren, Peter and Everly Coskren. He was also predeceased by his brother John Bowers. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held THURSDAY at 9:30 AM in St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St., W. Splfd. Burial will follow with full military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Calling Hours will be held WEDS from 4 to 7 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST., W. SPFLD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dakine Humane Society, P.O.
