Cheryl Ann (Sheldon) Rivers, 65, of Forris Street passed away Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Springfield on February 4, 1957 to the late Pauline (Tompkins) and Edward Sheldon. She lived her entire life in West Springfield and was a graduate of West Springfield High School. She worked in the customer service division of Omniglow/Cyalume in West Springfield. Cheryl was a member of the Red Oak Church. She will be remembered by all who knew for her caring, compassion, and kindness to others. Cheryl was a 20 yr. Breast Cancer Survivor. She was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed all four teams. She loved music, going to concerts and was self-taught and enjoyed playing the guitar and piano. Cheryl also had a love of animals, reading and especially large family gatherings. Dearest to her heart were her visits to Virginia to be with her daughter and her family.
She was the loving wife of 32 years to Raymond R. Rivers, beloved mother of April Kayton and her wife Jennifer of Chesapeake, VA, caring sister of Christopher Sheldon (wife Mary Jane Sheldon deceased), Richard Sheldon and his wife Sue, Linda Borecki and her husband Dan, Karen Duffy and her husband Robert, Debra Sheldon and Diane Warren, cherished grandmother of Lucas, Leo, Molly, and Addison Brunelle, and Wesley Becker. Cheryl also leaves many nieces and nephews. The calling hours will be Thurs. from 4-7 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. Funeral will be Friday at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Service at 11 am at the Red Oak Church in West Springfield. Burial will be at 1 pm at the Glen Valley Cemetery, 446 Valley Road, Barre, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cheryl’s memory may be made to the Rays of Hope, Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
