Obituary
Claire M. Sterling, 83, of Westfield, passed away on December 29th. Until recently she was a life-long resident of West Springfield. She is the daughter of the late James and Helen McGuinness of West Springfield. She is predeceased by her husband John Sterling, her sister Ruthanne McGuinness, her brothers John and Robert McGuinness but leaves her loving brother Matthew McGuinness. Claire is the loving mother of Robert Sterling and his wife Shirley, Ellen Doody and her husband Thomas, Brian Sterling and his wife Linda, Mary Mercadante and her husband Dino and Ann Carpenter and her husband Thomas. Claire also leaves 9 beloved grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Claire loved to be surrounded by her family and cherished each one of us. She worked and retired from retail sales for over 30 years. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Calling hours for Claire will be Friday, Jan. 4th from 12:00-2:00PM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street in West Springfield. A Funeral Home Service will follow the calling hours at 2:00PM, with a burial to follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Claire’s memory to the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
