Obituary
Daniel Joseph Skowera, Sr., 88, passed away Sunday at Heritage Hall in Agawam. He was born in Springfield on January 5, 1931 to the late Joseph and Anna (Beer) Skowera. He lived most of his life in West Springfield and was a graduate of West Springfield High School. He was a sheet metal mechanic most of his life and worked for over 20 years at Hamilton Standard where he retired in 1997. He was longtime communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Dan loved to dance and worked as a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Studios. He enjoyed bowling and golfing and will be remembered by all for his great sense of humor. He was beloved husband of the late Ellen (Durkee) Skowera, loving father of Daniel Skowera , Jr. and his wife Robin of West Springfield, Mary Cross and her husband Corky of Davenport, FL, Fr. Dennis Skowera of Chicopee, and Linda Collette and her husband Stephen of Old Orchard Beach, ME, caring brother of Paul “Teddy” Skowera and his wife Betty of West Springfield, devoted grandfather of 9, great grandfather of 13, and great great grandfather of 1, and he also leaves many nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Pauline (Ruel) Skowera and his grandson Christopher L’Esperance. He also leaves his close friend Marie Prova of West Springfield. The calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday 10 AM at St. Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee and the burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniel’s name may be made to the Hospice of Western and Central Massachusetts, 1325 Springfield Street, #12, Feeding Hills, MA 01030.
