David R. Whittaker

May 19, 1956 — July 8, 2025

David Richard Whittaker, 69, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst. He was born in Chicopee to the late Arthur & Dorothy (Simonich) Whittaker on May 19, 1956. David was a loving father to his daughter Danielle (Randy) Randall of East Bridgewater, and his sons Jeffrey (Yari) Whittaker of Westfield and Craig Whittaker of New Jersey. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hannah and R.J. Randall, and Olivia, Ethan, Audrina, McKenzie, and Michael Whittaker, as well as his sister Kim (Stanley) Kozik of Westfield, and his former wife Angela (DellaGuistina) Whittaker of Southwick. David spent his childhood traveling the country with his family. He was a 1974 graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School and attended the U.S. Naval Academy. David loved his family and friends, driving his truck, using computers, going to Misquamicut State Beach & Goose Rocks Beach, and sailing his sailboat. He took immense pride in watching his grandchildren play sports. Later in life, he found joy volunteering at Lake St. Catherine State Park in Poultney, Vermont. He went on to win the title of “Employee of the Year” - the only volunteer at the park to ever do so. Arrangements have been entrusted to Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to 'Hospice of the Fisher Home', 1165 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA, 01002, so others can receive the same gracious care he did, or to contribute to a memorial bench in his honor at Lake St. Catherine State Park, please send donations to 'Jo Hastings-Bineault', 1728 VT Route 30, Wells, VT, 05774. He will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him.
