Obituary

Dino Paul Yacovone, 86, of Lancaster Avenue passed away Thursday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Springfield on September 29th, 1931 to the late Liberatore and Marietta (DiCarlo) Yacovone. He grew up there and graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1949 and lived most of his life in West Springfield. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 37 yrs. in Springfield. He retired as a Postal Operations Specialist in 1989. Dino was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran. He proudly served in Korea from 1952-1953 in the 24th Infantry Division. He was a longtime communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. He enjoyed gardening, making wine, painting, and playing the accordion. He loved to spend time in the morning with his group of friends at the local Dunkin’ Donuts. Dino was the loving husband of 61 yrs. to Elizabeth J. (O’Connell) Yacovone, beloved father of Valerie A. Langlands and her husband Robert of West Springfield, Kathleen M. Serra and her husband Joseph of Del Ray Beach, FL, and Carolyn A. Edwards and her partner Chris Bernacki of Holyoke, devoted brother of Teresa Walsh of Agawam and the late Liberatore “Yac” Yacovone, caring brother-in-law to Frances O’Connell and her husband Edward St. John of Sturbridge and the late Emett Walsh and Shirley Linderman, cherished grandfather of Sarah Menke (Peter), Rebecca Langlands, Jennifer Ashe (Tim), and Michael Serra (Gina), Katie Serra (John Muller), Nicholas Edwards, and Hunter Edwards, and loving great grandfather of Matthew, Joseph, and Vanessa Ashe, Dominic and Nora Serra, Brendon and Owen Menke, and Sophie and Jake Muller. Dino also leaves several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield. The calling hours are Monday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
