Obituary
On Wednesday, January 27, 2021 the world lost a gentle, caring soul. Dominic P. DiTomaso passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family after a very courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Dominic, son of the late Nicola and Mary (DelBuono) DiTomaso, immigrants of Civitanova Italy, was born in Providence, RI on July 10, 1944. The family then relocated to the Merrick section of West Springfield. He graduated from West Springfield High School in 1962. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy to proudly serve as a sonar technician on the DD-776 USS James C. Owens. In 1967, Dominic met his future wife Alice (Lou) Reynolds near the Western Mass Hospital where she attended nursing school. They married in 1968 and settled in Feeding Hills to raise their three children. Dominic was employed by American Airlines from 1968-2003, retiring with 33 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed collecting coins, going to car shows, fishing, collecting blue jay feathers with the grandchildren, and watching their sporting events whenever he could attend. Dominic leaves behind to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 53 years who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness, Alice (Lou) Reynolds, his sons Dominic C. of Feeding Hills, Christopher of Redondo Beach, CA, and daughter Dina Manekas (David) of Agawam. Dominic “Nono” will be deeply missed by his 3 grandsons, Cohen and Justin Manekas, and Dominic DiTomaso Jr. Besides his parents, Dominic is predeceased by his sister Paula and his niece Lisa. He is survived by his brother Nick and his wife Mary, and many extended family members. The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, February 2 at 9:30 AM from the St. Thomas Church 47 Pine St. West Springfield with burial to follow at the Mass Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be Monday, February 1 from 5 - 7 PM from the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St. West Springfield. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Veteran’s Administration Home Care program and to Compassus Hospice for all of their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dominic’s name to American Parkinson’s Disease Assn. MA Chapter, 720 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02134.
