Donald A. Rivers, Sr., 79, passed away Thursday at home. He was born in Springfield to the late Adeline (Carey) and Frank Rivers. Worked in maintenance and retired from Smith and Wesson in Springfield. Previously he had worked for 18 years at Uniroyal in Chicopee, and prior to that at the former Cheney Bigelow Wireworks in Spfld. Donald proudly served in the US Navy. He was formerly a member of Holy Family Church in Holyoke. He was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed his fishing trips to Maine and New York with his family. He also cherished spending his summers at his camp in Heath, MA. Donald was a 40 yr. member and past President of the Western Mass Industrial Pistol League. He also was a member of the Wildlife Hunter�s Association and he traveled all over New England teaching hunting safety. Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary C. (McVey) Rivers in October. He leaves his loving children, Kathleen A. Alevras and her husband George of W. Spfld., Donald A. Rivers, Jr. and his wife Regina of Palmer, David A. Rivers of Panama City, FL and John F. Rivers and his wife Teri of W. Spfld., his adored grandchildren, Sarah Alevras, Kate and Mike Germain, Nicholas Alevras, Michael, Alex, Haley, Diana, Caroline, Daniel and Joel Rivers and one great-grandson, Jackson Germain. He also leaves his two sisters�in-law, Arlene McVey of Springfield and Margaret LaBonte of Westfield and his nephew William Rivers of Longmont, CO. There will be an 11AM Funeral Home Service, Tuesday at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St. W. Spfld., followed by a burial at St. Thomas Cemetery.
