Obituary
Doris A. (Govoni) Berard, 92, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 19th, at Heritage Hall West, Agawam. She was born August 30, 1927 in West Springfield to the late Paul and Katherine (Montagna) Govoni. Doris was a graduate of Agawam High School, editor in chief of the yearbook and voted Best Girl Athlete. She worked for 50 years at the former Premoind Corporation as a secretary to the superintendent, with her good friends Carolyn Wood and Bob DeGeorge. She was an avid reader and Sports fan who enjoyed watching the Patriots, Red Sox and college football. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond J Berard in 1979 and her sister, Irene (Govoni) Smith and her husband Schuyler. She leaves her loving sons Paul R Berard and his wife Janice (Pandolfi) and Richard J Berard and his wife Susan (Wood), all of Agawam. She was known as “Auntie Doris” to a multiple of generations of family members, including Dena and her husband Michael McCabe, Max Ponte and his wife Amanda, Shelley Daly, Devin, Diana, and Brian Daly, Matt Marek, Ashley Kuselias and her husband Stephen, and Joseph and Hannah. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 am at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. The burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 am to 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Agawam Public Library Children’s Department, 750 Cooper Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
