Obituary
Dorothy G. Drewiany, 99, passed away August 1, 2022. Almost 100 years ago, she was born in Brunswick, Maine to Simeon and Mary Ida Bolduc. In 1946, she married Steven E. Drewiany of Westfield, Mass, and they shared a wonderful life together for 64 years in West Springfield.
Dorothy was a woman of many talents. As a seamstresss, she sewed beautiful dresses and coats for her girls, and made alterations for many friends and family members. She was also an excellent quilter and sewed quilts for her children and grandchildren.
She had a “green thumb” and grew flowers and vegetables at home and at the nearby community garden. She was a member of the local garden club. Her love for African violets was renowned.
Dorothy volunteered at Bay State Medical Center where she assisted patients and staff in the surgery and the labor and delivery departments. She also drove cancer patients to their appointments. Her generous donation of over twenty gallons of blood from 1970 to 1995 earned her recognition.
Bowling was Dorothy’s favorite sport, and she bowled in both a women’s league and a couple’s league with her late husband Steven. She served as secretary of one of the leagues, and earned many trophies for her accomplishments. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Steven Drewiany in 2010 and her son Ronald Drewiany in 2021. She leaves her daughters; Carol A. Johnson and her husband Ronald and Janet M. Taylor and her husband Scott all of Fairbanks, Alaska, her grandchildren; Katie and Laura Johnson of Boulder, CO., Christopher and Bryan Taylor of Wasilla, Alaska and Jessie Taylor of Weehawken, NJ.
Dorothy’s burial took place in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. If you would like to honor Dorothy's life, please consider giving blood or donating to the American Red Cross.
