Dorothy M. Harris

West Springfield - Dorothy M. Harris passed away on Friday, August 30 at Cedarbrook Village in Ware, where she had been a resident for the past two years. She was 95 years old. Born in Springfield on November 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Matilda (Blackberg) Littlefield. She lived on Lewis Avenue in West Springfield for almost 70 years. A graduate of Agawam High School, Dorothy worked for many years as an administrative assistant in the West Springfield Public School District. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC of West Springfield for over 50 years, serving in various roles as a Deaconess, Secretary to the Board of Trustees and Assistant Clerk. Dorothy was also Secretary for the Paucatuck Cemetery Association in West Springfield. She was a member of the Ramapogue Historical Society and the Interfaith and Parish Association, and she volunteered for Operation Santa, among her many community activities. Dorothy loved to play cards, enjoyed making puzzles, and traveled extensively during her retirement years. She also enjoyed a variety of crafts; knitting and quilting were her favorites. She cherished family gatherings, whether at the family home in West Springfield, or in The Thousand Islands, Monson, Ithaca, Franklin Pierce Lake, and Sanibel Island. Dorothy was predeceased by her devoted husband of over 65 years, Robert Harris, brother William (Ruth) Littlefield, sisters Esther (George) Godard and Ruth (George) Rydell, and grandson Matthew Harris. She is survived by sons Glenn (Kathleen) Harris of Lisbon, NY, Robert (Linda) Harris of Ithaca, NY and Paul (Kathy) Harris of Boothbay, ME; daughter Donna (Michael) Okscin of Monson; grandchildren Eric (Catherine) Okscin, Rebecca (Rick) Sanford, Caleb Harris, and Annie (Bob) DeCoteau; and great-grandchildren Harland and Alexandra Okscin, as well as Quinn, Eli, Libby, Hannah and Ethan DeCoteau, and Grace Sanford. She will be missed by niece Sue (Allen) Runshaw and nephew Kevin (Cindy) Littlefield, both of whom shared a loving bond with Aunt Dot. Visitation will be 1-2pm on Saturday, September 7, with a funeral service at 2pm at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME in West Springfield. Burial will follow at Paucatuck Cemetery.
