Obituary
Douglas Charles Goodman, 90, of Dewey Street passed away Monday at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Westfield on August 4th, 1927 to the late Carroll and Emily Goodman. Doug was a lifelong resident of West Springfield. He was a self-starter who, through hard work and perseverance, became a registered architect and eventually a co-owner of Reinhardt Associates. He designed many buildings throughout New England, as well as several projects in the Middle East. Doug served in the Merchant Marines and later in U.S. Army Intelligence during the Korean War. He was very active in the community, serving on many town boards, most recently as Chair of the Board of Directors for the West Springfield Council on Aging. He was a communicant and Extraordinary Minister at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Doug was the loving husband of 69 years to Catherine F. (McGrath) Goodman, beloved father of Mark Goodman of Lakeland, FL, Susan Tassinari and her husband Mark of Suffield, CT, Sheileen Goodman of Chicopee, and Laura Pudela and her husband Peter of Parrish, FL, devoted grandfather of Sean Goodman, Michael and Clare Tassinari, P.J. and Calvin Pudela, and great grandfather of Jetta Goodman. He was predeceased by his brother Raymond Goodman. Doug particularly loved spending time with friends and family at his summer home in Otis, MA and will be remembered as generous, passionate, creative and endlessly optimistic. He is already dearly missed by his family and many friends. The funeral will be Friday at 9 AM at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with burial at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
