West Springfield- Edward Joseph Shea, 86, passed away Sunday at Mount St. Vincent in Holyoke. He was born in Springfield to the late Hanna (Moriarty) and Thomas Shea and has lived here since 1970. Edward was a graduate of the former Bentley School of Accounting. His first job he worked as an accountant for the former Doubleday, Allen and Grimaldi Accounting in W. Spfld. He worked for many years as the Controller for N & B Express, Inc. in South Deerfield. He also served as an accountant for James A. Curran Construction in Holyoke as well as other various local firms for many years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Edward was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus - Unity Council 2212. He was a life member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club and also a life member and active volunteer for the Sons of Erin in Westfield. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Holyoke and in 2009 was awarded Hibernian of the year. He was also awarded the 2011 West Springfield Parade Marshall for the Holyoke St. Patrick�s Day Parade. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed everything Notre Dame, as well as the NY Giants, the NY Rangers and Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed his children�s and grandchildren�s athletic endeavors over the years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marion E. (Drohan) Shea in 2003. He leaves his loving children, Edward W. Shea of Sturbridge, Kathleen A. Lawrence and her husband James of W. Spfld., and Kevin T. Shea and his wife Donna of Hampton, NH, his adored grandsons, James and Sean Lawrence, his caring brother George R. Shea and his wife Kathleen of East Longmeadow, he was predeceased by Thomas P. �Tossie� Shea, Mary H. �Maise� McGuire and Irene T. O'Malley. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday 9AM at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St. W. Spfld., followed by a 10AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street, W. Spfld.. The burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be from Wednesday from 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas School Development Fund, 75 Pine St, W. Spfld., MA 01089 or the Ancient Order of Hibernians Scholarship Fund, PO Box 826, Holyoke, MA 01041.
