Eleanor DelBuono passed away peacefully on Sept. 29, 2023 at home. She was 98 years old. Born in West Springfield, Eleanor was the daughter of Domenico & Josephine (Ditomaso) Battista. She married her highschool sweetheart, Angelo on April 2, 1945 and they were blessed with 65 beautiful years together. Eleanor was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and prayed the rosary daily. She was a selfless woman of great love and generosity who welcomed everyone into her home. Cooking Sunday dinners for her family was a tradition she held dear. She was a wonderful Italian baker and crafted many beautiful wedding and birthday cakes, adding sweetness to countless celebrations. Eleanor had the ability to make everyone feel welcomed and part of the family, a testament to her kind heart and caring spirit. Eleanor’s talents were as vast as her heart was big. Her love for crochet and knitting was seen in the beautiful pieces that she made with love. A fan of the Boston Red Sox, she never missed a game. This interest added enthusiasm to her days and even some late nights. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida with Linda and Jim where she often dined out, attended mass at St. Henrys, played Canasta, and visited the casino with family and friends. She was the loving mother to her 4 children, her daughter Linda Vigliano and her husband Jim whom she lived with, her sons, Donald (Leda), Paul(Nancy), and Peter. Nonni leaves her 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren who will continue her legacy of love and family. Eleanor is also survived by her brother-in-law Gino(Bunny) Del Buono. She is predeceased by her husband Angelo, her two brothers, John and Francis Battista, and her great grandchild, Anthony Cove. Eleanor’s family would like to thank the Compassus team, Amy and Jennifer from Chanda Care, and Yaritza for their care and compassion given to our mother. Visiting hours will be held on October 11, from 9am to 11am at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30am in Sacred Heart Church, 387 Chestnut St, Spfld. Memorial donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Spfld., MA 01104 or to a charity of one's choice.
