Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) A. Gotta of West Springfield, age 94, daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Cellilli) Garde passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on December 27, 2021.  Betty was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Louis V. Gotta, her son, Stephen J. Gotta and her sister, Patricia Walker.  She is survived by her son, Paul (Maryanne) Gotta, Mary Gotham and Roseanne (Mark) Wiggins and her sister, Barbara Garvey.  She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Sarah (Jeff), Stephen, Lindsey, Andrea, Jacob and Matthew, as well as her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Taylor and Brielle and by many nieces, nephews and friends. During high school Betty worked at Steiger’s Department Store and Baystate Hospital in the billing department.  After graduating from Cathedral High School, she was employed at the City Hall in Springfield. She met and married Louie. Betty’s dream was to be a wife, a homemaker and a mother.  She was blessed with four children and faithfully taught them Christian beliefs and values.  While managing her home and family, in between being a wife and a mother, Betty volunteered her time at St. Thomas School. She was always a sport enthusiast.  Baseball was her passion.  She was an avid Red Sox Fan.  Betty was a devout Catholic.  She was a life-long member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield.  She was a woman of compassion and dignity and she had an overwhelming generosity to those less fortunate and possessed unending faith in God.  She will be dearly missed. The funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11AM from the St Thomas Church, 47 Pine St, West Springfield with a calling hour from 9:30-10:30 at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St West Springfield. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brightside for Families and Children Mercy Fund Development, P.O. Box 9012, Springfield, MA 01102-9012 or St Thomas Church 47 Pine St West Springfield, MA 01089.
