Florence N. (Healey) Fleming

Obituary
Florence N. (Healey) Fleming, an active 95-year-old, of West Springfield, beloved by family and friends, passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes after a brief 6-month illness at her daughter Betty’s home in Delaware on March 22, 2021. She was born July 27, 1925, the daughter of the late Cecil and Gladys Healey. She leaves her three daughters, Norma Bounds (Richard), Betty Fleming (Jimmy), Kathy Walsh (Douglas), and her three sons William, John (Rita), and Gregg. She also leaves her sister Louise Stebbins, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She leaves many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband William Fleming, her sisters Jean Wood, Irene Heim, Esther Lederer and her brother Allyne Healey.
Florence went back to school at 37 to become a nurse. She was always a caregiver and gave her time and help to many. Florence was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church. She loved nature and traveling. She spent many summers exploring in her VW camper with her sister Louise and visited every state. She also traveled Europe, Australia, Galapagos and the Amazon Rain Forest. She was especially proud of climbing Mt. Washington at age 75 like her father. She enjoyed celebrating her birthdays with her family including when she flew in a hot air balloon and went parasailing. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Toomey-OBrien Funeral Home will conduct a private burial at the convenience of the family in Paucatuck Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 337 Piper Rd, West Springfield, MA 01089, Samaritan’s Purse PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607: online: Shoebox Gift at a maritanspurse.org or to any Hospice of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 8th, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in West Springfield.
