Frances Roberts

July 27, 1935 — January 1, 2023

West Springfield – From the moment Frances entered this world she was remarkable. A surprise home birth resulted in triplets July 27, 1935. She grew up in a typical Italian household surrounded by her loving family. Frances was predeceased by her mother Angelina Mazzamurra and father Frank Mastromatteo. She is survived by her brothers Richard and his wife Mary Ellen and Robert and his wife Charlene. She is also survived by many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Frances is predeceased by her husband Robert Roberts (May 10, 2001); together they raised four children. The family mourned the loss of second-to-youngest son William (Uncle Billy) Roberts on May 17, 1995. Frances was a stay-at-home mom until her husband became ill and she returned to the workforce in her fifties. She was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a secretary working at the Town of West Springfield Building Department. She worked there for 30 years until her retirement in 2019. She lived a strong and independent life; her spirit was vivacious and captivating; and it is due to this lively spirit her memories will remain everlasting.

Frances is survived by her daughter Linda Grenon and husband Stephen Grenon, son Jeffery Roberts and wife Jo-Anne Roberts, and youngest son Timothy Roberts. Frances is also survived by her grandchildren: Kelly, Amanda, Dalin, Jamie, Christina, Samantha, and Stephanie; and her great-grandchildren: Kayla, Jovani, Sophia, Abilena, and Jason. Frances was a light that illuminated each room she entered. She lived her life unapologetically with grace and distinction. She enjoyed vacations on cruise ships, gold jewelry, Boyds Bears, Vera Bradley purses and homemade sauce with meatballs and English muffins. She loved bus trips to Atlantic City and playing scratch tickets. She enjoyed sitting on her screen porch and reading a book. Frances loved playing Bingo and won coverall lottery like you or I, change our socks. She rightfully earned the name “Lucky” at the Senior Center with her regular Bingo winnings. She had the type of personality where she left an impression on you no matter how brief the interaction.

We had hoped to have many more years with Frances but after a fall on December 8th a plethora of health issues presented. We enjoyed beautiful moments together as a family over the following weeks. She amazed the doctors with her steps towards recovery but ultimately decided to end life the same way she always lived it, on her own terms. She opted to forego being poked and prodded for final moments of peace and comfort.

She loved her family, friends and the place she called home her entire life: the Town of West Springfield. But more than anything she loved being herself, feeling happy and enjoying life to its’ fullest.
Calling hours will be Friday 4-7PM at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St. West Springfield. A Funeral Home Service will be Saturday January 7, 2023, at 10AM with burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
