Obituary
Francis William Benoit, 72, of Armstrong Street passed away Thursday at home. He was born in Springfield to the late Theresa (Roy) and Robert Benoit Sr. He lived all his life in West Springfield and was a graduate of Springfield Trade High School. Francis started out as a mechanic at the former Murray’s Gulf Station at the X in Springfield. He later worked at Clark’s Gulf in West Springfield as a mechanic and tow driver for 38 yrs. In his retirement he loved taking his boat out fishing at all his favorite spots. He also was an accomplished woodworker making furniture, toys, kitchen cabinets and more. He also loved spending time doing word search books and he would complete at least one book a week. He was the beloved husband of 49 yrs. To Donna M. (Matteson) Benoit, loving father of William Benoit and his wife Monica of Westfield, and James and John Benoit of West Springfield, caring brother of Robert Benoit and his wife Theresa, Paul Benoit, Annette Atkins, Susan Wilkey, Linda Herron, and Donna Mae Benoit, devoted grandfather of Abbey Moers and her husband Cody, Troy Benoit, Raina Benoit, and step grandson Aaron, and cherished great grandfather to Cameron Moers. All Funeral Services will be private and Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Baystate Hospice, 30 Capital Drive, West Springfield, MA 01089 or to Baystate D’Amour Center Cancer Program, 3350 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107.
