Obituary
Gary Lewis Masotti passed away at home on February 9, 2022 at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. He was born on January 6, 1953, to the late Roland Masotti and Bertha (Sampson) Masotti Mahue. He was raised in Westfield and then served as a paratrooper in the Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He lived for a time in Wyoming until he returned to western MA where he helped raise his children. Gary was a hard worker who always worked multiple jobs. Whether he was working on oil rigs, in construction, chef at Chez Josef, or for the U.S. Postal Service, he always made time for his family and friends. Recently, he retired to Florida where he loved biking around town and to the ocean. Gary was an outdoor enthusiast who loved to kayak, ski, and whitewater rafting. He loved nature, traveling, and adventure. Gary is survived by his children Johanna (Masotti) Searles and her husband Travis, Jennelle Masotti, Anthony Masotti, and his beloved grandchildren Jacob, Emily, Andrew, Ryan, and Lillian Searles. He also leaves his mother Bertha Mahue, his siblings Bruce Masotti and his wife Beth, Sandra Piette, Pamela Gaulard, Richard Mahue, and many nieces, nephews, and friends especially his best friend, St Clair ‘Reggie’ Austin. Gary was pre-deceased by his father, Roland Masotti, and his stepfather, Aurius Mahue. Calling hours will be held Tuesday February 15, 2022 from 1-2:15 PM at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home in West Springfield directly followed by Committal Prayers at 3pm with Military Honors in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Parks Foundation.
