West Springfield, Genevieve �Jean� Polumbo passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 after a short illness. Jean was born March 16, 1920 in Southbridge, MA. She was the daughter of Franck and Rose (Parzych) Sydlik. Jean married Joseph Polumbo in 1942 and traveled with him to Florida for his army training during WWII. They enjoyed many family vacations to New Jersey and Las Vegas and time with family and friends. Joe passed away after 55 years of marriage in 1997. Jean worked for many years in Forbes and Wallace�s bridal salon and at the Ivy Shop in Longmeadow. She enjoyed cooking for her family � especially large Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts. She read numerous newspapers every day and followed the news and business reports on TV. Jean talked with pride of her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to all who would listen. Jean lived a long and healthy life. Besides her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her siblings Adele Bolton, Alfred Sydlik, Irene Grouton and Sibina Sydlik. Jean is survived by her sons John (Susan) Polumbo, Robert (Georgea) Polumbo, grandchildren Mark (Shaney) Polumbo. Gregory (Genoa) Polumbo, Kimberly Polumbo, and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves nieces Roseann (Ronald) Citerell, Patricia Smith, and nephews Angelo (Phyllis) Polumbo, Michael (Donna) Barbieri, and Joseph (Gail Wong) Barbieri. A funeral home service will be held Friday at 11am from the Toomey-O�Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St West Springfield with calling hours from 9-11am. Burial will be private at St Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean�s memory to the Salvation Army 170 Pearl St Springfield, MA 01101.
