Obituary
George James Alevras, 69, passed away Monday unexpectedly at home. He was born in Springfield on July 16, 1950 and has lived in West Springfield all of his life. He was a graduate of West Springfield High School. George worked as an ironworker and was a member of the Ironworker Union Local #365 in Springfield. He also owned and operated G.J.A. Construction, the former National Video Store in West Springfield and these were just some George’s entrepreneurial endeavors. He was an outdoorsman and loved boating, fishing, hunting and gardening. He also was an accomplished woodworker. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Maronite Church in Springfield. He was the beloved husband of 39 yrs. to Kathleen A. (Rivers) Alevras, loving father of Sarah Alevras of Westfield, Kate Germain and her husband Michael of Suffield, and Nicholas Alevras of West Springfield, an extremely devoted grandfather known better as “Gido” to Jackson and Lily Germain, son of Elizabeth (Sadak) Alevras and the late Charles Alevras, and brother of Joanne Siller and her husband Gerd and Carol Hillios and her husband Stewart all of West Springfield. George also leaves many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Mary (McVey) Rivers. There will be calling hours Sunday from 4-7 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. There will be a Funeral Home Service Monday at 10:30 am followed by a burial at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s name may be made to Donate Life New England, 60 First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451.
