Gertrude (Woodden) Gil, of Wolcott Avenue, West Springfield, Massachusetts, went to be with the Lord on July�21, 2015, at the age of 92. A daughter of the late George and Birtie Woodden, she was born in Fisherville, Kentucky, on January�14, 1923. After graduating from high school, she worked at Standard Oil in Kentucky. She met her late husband, Manuel Gil, at a USO dance in Kentucky, and they married in April of 1944, later moving to West Springfield. A devout Southern Baptist, Gertrude was a long-time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in West Springfield. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Manuel Gil, in November 2008, and was also predeceased by her sister, Pearl Smoot, and her brother, Robert Woodden. Gertrude is survived by her three sons, M. Thomas Gil (Sandi) of Montgomery, Paul Gil (Janice) of West Springfield, and James Gil (Jamie) of West Springfield, seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Gil, Stephen Gil, Samantha Gil, Peter Gil, Michelle Utzinger, Melissa Utzinger, and Lisa Shen, and three great-grandchildren, Kyle Snide, Nicole Snide, and Zachary Shen. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Indevez (Gil) Fuller and two nieces, Debra Gardner (husband John and son Evan) and Diane Fuller. A calling hour will be held Friday, August 7, 2015, from 12-1PM followed by a 1PM Funeral Home Service at TOOMEY-O�BRIEN Funeral Home, 1043�Westfield Street, West Springfield. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans� Cemetery in Agawam. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
