Hammond Robertson III
Southwick- Hammond “Skip” Robertson III, 72 passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Noble Hospital in Westfield. Born on February 9, 1953 in Albany, New York, Skip was the beloved son of the late Joan Ahr Robertson and Hammond Robertson Jr. He spent his childhood on the shores of Lake George, where he cultivated a strong work ethic and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Skip graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He forged a long career in the paper industry with James River, International Paper, and Strathmore before embarking on a second career in tax preparation at Liberty Tax. For the past thirty years, he called Southwick home. An avid athlete and traveler, Skip competed in some of the earliest freestyle skiing events of the 1970s at Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. He also delighted in visits to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and London, but his favorite destination was bench number one on the apron of Saratoga Race Track- an unbroken tradition from 1992 through the Belmont Stakes on June 7, 2025. Skip was predeceased by his wife, Sandy Robertson. He is survived by his son, Andrew Robertson, and daughter-in-law, Lauren, Andrew’s mother, Deb Caronna, Sandy’s children, Robyn Mailloux her husband Benjamin, and Kristen Young. Most, cherished of all, his grandchildren Emily, Carly, Jack, Miles, Owen, Cole, Avery, Riley, and Hannah, for whom he happily traveled across New England to cheer at every game, recital and graduation. He also leaves his sister, BethAmy Robertson, brother, Doug Robertson, his wife Joan, and their daughters Liz, her husband Carlos, Stephanie, and Alexandra. Skip selflessly devoted himself to caring for his mother in her later years, and later his wife Sandy through her illness. Skip’s warmth, generosity, and boundless love for family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Any services will be scheduled later at the family's convenience. All arrangements have been entrusted to Toomey- O’Brien Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in honor of Skip to the American Heart Association.
