Harold William Hannon, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Heritage Hall in Agawam, MA. He was born in Springfield, son of the late Rose (Cartello) and Harold Hannon, Sr. and a lifelong resident of Agawam, graduating from Agawam High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon return, he worked for forty years at Hamilton Standard and retired as a foreman in the Jet Fuel Controls division in 1991. He was a parishioner at the former St. Anthony of Padua in North Agawam.
He was the beloved husband of the late Joy (Montagna) Hannon and the late Annette (Girard) Hannon, loving father of Denise Meiners and her husband Edward of South Yarmouth, William Hannon and his wife Nancy of Athol, Karen Hannon and her husband Nicolas of Newton, James Hannon and his wife Lisa of North Granby, CT, Thomas Hannon and his wife Linda of Agawam, and Patricia Celtruda and her husband Joseph of Halfmoon, NY, and devoted grandfather of six. He also enjoyed spending time with Joy’s children and their families.
Harold was an avid sports fan, coached his sons’ little league teams for many years, and cherished yearly family camping trips to Cape Cod. In retirement, Harold and Joy enjoyed extensive world travel and spending winters in Venice, FL. He was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital, enjoyed gardening, and spending time with his large extended family and friends.
Calling hours will be 10-11am on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, MA. The Funeral Home Service will follow at 11am. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Hospice of Western & Central Massachusetts.
