Obituary
Helen Therese Scagliarini, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Helen was born in Adams, Massachusetts on May 19, 1933 to Cesare and Ellen (McDonald) Scagliarini. Helen grew up in Westfield, Massachusetts and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s high school where she met her lifelong best friend Madlyn Murphy, who currently resides in California. Over the years, Helen’s favorite pastime was traveling to Italy for visits with her dear friend Madlyn. During her professional life, Helen worked in the accounting department at Baypath Jr. College and served as the comptroller of Westfield Development Corporation from 1985 to her retirement in 2002. In 1972, Helen became a proud owner and resident of a townhouse at The Planation condominiums in Agawam and lived there for over forty years. She enjoyed her neighbors and community there. Especially Lauren & Ken, Sheila, and Wendy. Helen also devoted her time serving on the board of the homeowners’ association. Helen was an avid world traveler. In addition to her Italy trips, she cherished her time traveling with her cousins Janet Keyes and Carol (Scagliarni) Krol. When Helen wasn’t traveling, she also loved to spend quiet time at home reading and occasional visits to the casino. In 2016, Helen moved to Armbrook Village in Westfield and enjoyed assisted living there in a wonderful apartment. The most amazing and compassionate staff adored her. Especially Bill, Susan, Jaimie, and Stefanie, who were among Helen’s favorite staff members. Her Goddaughter Denise Millstine of Scottdale, Arizona and Godson Michael Scagliarini of Milford, CT survive Helen. She also leaves behind her dear friend Terry Hodur and favorite cousins Janet Keyes and Carol (Scagliarini) Krol. Her parents, Cesare and Ellen (McDonald) Scagliarini, and her sister Margaret Scagliarini preceded her in death. Arrangements are entrusted to the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home. A private graveside service and burial will be held on Thursday, April 16th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s name to Armbrook Village - Compass Memory Care Programs, 551 North Road, Westfield, MA 01085.
