West Springfield- Irene J. (Lawsure) Gutowski, 85, passed away Sunday in the comfort of her daughter's home surrounded by her family. She was born in Springfield to the late Yvonne (Phaneuf) and Walter Lawsure. Irene was a graduate of West Springfield High School. She started her career at the New England Telephone Company and after starting a family, Irene and her husband, Joe, became proprietors of the Boulevard Meat Market in West Springfield where they served the local community and made many friends. When the business was sold, she became the Office Manager at H. P. Hood, Inc. in Agawam. Irene enjoyed bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, dancing and traveling. She enjoyed spending time with her 5 grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Gutowski in 1995. She leaves her loving daughters, Paula Covino of North Grafton, Karen Light and her husband Howard of Granby, Joanne Sypek and her partner, Rob Polverari of W. Spfld., and Lisa Kulha and her partner, Steve Sanger of Parker, CO, her adored grandchildren, Danielle and Dana Light, Steven Sypek and Joseph and John Covino and their father, John Covino, Sr., her sisters, Barbara D�Agostino and her husband Angelo and Edwina Hubbard and her husband Gilbert and her loving companion of seventeen years, Walter DeFilippi. The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice for their care and support. The funeral will be 9AM Friday at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St. W. Spfld., followed by a 10AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street. The burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-7 PM.
