Irmgard (Irma) O. Prella, of West Springfield passed away peacefully at home at the age of 94 on Sunday, August 2, 2026 and was surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Germany, she was the daughter of Karl and Amanda (Bethke) Arndt. Her early years were marked by struggles endured during the second world war, but she immigrated with her husband in 1954 at age 23 armed with an indomitable spirit. She was an unforgettable woman with warmth, energy, positivity and sometimes an endearing feistiness. She was always stylishly dressed and was rarely seen without heels. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to flowers in her yard, knitting and taking day drives with her husband (and children in earlier years). She was a member of the German Turn Verein Club in Feeding Hills. Irmgard was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert R. Prella and leaves her loving children, Randy Prella (Donna) and Linda Prella. She leaves a grandson, Brian Prella (Alexandra) and great grandchildren Lukas and Kyra Prella. She also leaves relatives in Germany, sister Erika Behrens, nephew Andreas Behrens (Bruni) as well as several other nieces and nephews. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is handling the services which will be private.
