James Babcock Jr. 85, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Lena (Morin) Babcock & James Babcock, Sr. James lived in West Springfield with the love of his life, his wife, Alice. Spending time with loved ones, which included family dinners, special occasions, lobster bakes and impromptu gatherings, were what he cherished most. If he wasn’t puttering around in the yard, Jim could be found putting at a golf course, traveling, dancing and rooting for his favorite UConn Girls’ basketball team. James enlisted in the US Army Reserves and was a tank operator for 6 years during the Korean War although never being deployed. He worked in the food transportation industry for many years and retired as a truck driver for Pepperidge Farm after 25 years of service. He leaves his wife of 32 years, Alice, his sister Rita and children Debra and her husband Rich, Diane and husband Chuck, Corry and wife Ann-Louise, Jeff and wife Joyce, Lisa and husband Tom, Kathleen, and extended family Keith, Kristen, Kim and Kyle, 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Calling hours at the Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, are Monday, January 27, 2025, from 4-7pm. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 47 Pine St, W. Springfield. Entombment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Rd, Springfield, MA. In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of James.
