West Springfield - John L. Ferranti, 95, passed away Tuesday at the Holyoke Soldier's Home. He was born in Springfield to the late Angelina (Cavicchi) and Anthony Ferranti and lived most of his life in West Springfield. John was a graduate of West Springfield High School and attended the State University of New York at Oswego. He owned and operated Giovanni's Restaurants for over 30 years. He was a former communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in W. Spfld. John proudly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Dante Club and a Charter member of the W. Spfld. Rotary Club. John was an avid bicyclist and was a member of the Cyclonauts and cycled all over the world. He leaves his loving daughters, Jacqueline F. Kennedy and Richard Chedester of Whately and Rhea C. Ferranti and Keith Hull of Bellvue, CO, his grandchildren, Sean Kennedy and his wife Jen and Stephanie Bisson and her husband Kevin, four great-grandchildren, Anthony and Evelyn Bisson and Conor and Clare Kennedy, his caring sister, Elizabeth Dorman and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his good friend Elizabeth Perry. He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Ferranti and his sister, Lillian Gonnelli. There will be a celebration of life Saturday, 9AM at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St. W. Spfld. followed by a 10AM Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St. The burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5-7PM.
