Born in Providence, RI. Son of the late John and Nora (Costello) Hanly of County Roscommon, Ireland. Brother of the late John Hanly and the late Ann Kane. Beloved husband of the late Mildred (Croke) Hanly who passed away in 2010 and loving father of daughters Kathleen Fitzgerald and her husband Paul of Cranston, RI and Ann Gagnon and her husband Gary of Wilbraham, and sons James Hanly and his wife June of Jamaica Plain, MA and John Hanly and his wife Michele of Old Saybrook, CT. Grandfather to 11 children and great grandfather to 4 children. Brother-in-law of Mary Hanly. He graduated from La Salle Academy in Providence, RI and was an U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2212. He worked for New England Wheel as a salesman and vice president for over 40 years. He was a Catholic Charities volunteer for over 20 years and a Greater Springfield Senior Services volunteer for 8 years. He also coached West Springfield youth hockey. His greatest love was his family. He was a very accomplished bridge player and a long time member of the Westfield Bridge Club and also a member of Edgewood Golf Course where he once had a hole-in-one. He took great enjoyment in both. Calling hours are Thursday from 10:30AM � 11:30 AM at the TOOMEY-O�BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield followed by a Christian Liturgical Mass at 12 Noon at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield.
